Starting out in model railways can be very daunting for the inexperienced beginner. This book, as it says on the cover, is all about taking those first steps from a simple train set oval of track to a fully scenic model railway. The book contains chapters on baseboard construction, track laying, wiring and control, scenic work, buildings and structures, operation and a couple of sample layout plans that can be built by a beginner with basic skills. There is also a glossary that explains a lot of the inevitable jargon that comes with model railways and puts some people off.I bought this book because I am in this position of wanting to move on from a train set but lacking the skills and confidence to get on with it. I have now after years of procrastinating started on my layout and after flicking through the book found a lot of helpful hints and advice.Read full review
