This product is bad to the bone! yes, it's pricey but it has the largest screen and does basically 2 more things that all other Fitbit products are not capable of. It has enabled gps so it tracks your distance very accurately and has notifications and music control from your cell phone which is super cool. My wife works in a job that she has to put phone in vibrate mode while working. This Surge will vibrate when a text comes through and she can read it on the Surge which is extremely handy. We have yet to totally diagnose it's features of heart rate monitoring and such, but has a nice app for cell phone to track and also a good app for home computer to monitor things also. It is water resistant but not water proof so I do have some concern about being out in the rain with it and such, but it looks like it's pretty protective from water intrusion. The touch screen works well and I have discovered there are tempered glass screen protectors available for this device, although they are not sold by fitbit. Personally I like the clock being nicely readable. Although it's price point makes a pretty sizable jump up from the charge HR to this Surge, I feel it's a good investment. Only have had it for a week now and still some time before I could truely rate the applications for it but so far I like what I am seeing on those. Now, allow me to address the size of the band. I had issues determining what size band to get my wife. I went with the small and it's just big enough to fit her wrist on the very last notch on the band and she does have a small wrist. Personally she likes it that way as it is silicone and will most likely stretch some over time. My overall thoughts on this is get a large unless the wrist is indeed very small, then opt for the small band. I do not know if the large would have any issues of being too big on a person as I haven't personally seen one with a large band. I don't see any way of changing out the band like you can with the Fitbit Flex. I would love to see the Surge have the ability to change out the band to repair/replace it as needed. That would be huge improvement. You can't send text of course through this device, but being able to read a text is handy to be aware of what may or may not be needed to reply to. I highly recommend this device!Read full review

I bought this watch a few months ago after researching the Fitbits. Honestly, I'm not so in love with as I thought I would be. It's a great fitness tracker, don't get me wrong. If you're only buying it for that, then it will work exceptionally for you. If you're buying it to function as a smart watch, then don't. It is by no means an Apple Watch. The features revolve around fitness and that's what it does best. The only thing I wish it had would be seconds on the clock face. I'm an EMT and having seconds would be extremely helpful. Fitbit puts out updates that have been helpful like adding a timer, but it's an inconvenience. Other than that, it's a good watch. It'll track any fitness workout that you could want. It tracks your steps, stairs, calories, heart rate, and sleep. Bottom line is if you want a smart watch, get an Apple Watch. If you want a fitness tracker, get the Fitbit Surge.Read full review

Love just about everything about this Fitbit Surge... accurate ... keeps up with me...registers all my active minutes (which my Fitbit HR didn't) fits good (I have the small..its very small, so you might want the large if you have bigger wrists) my only complaint is that the screen is very dark... you can go into settings and choose backlight on. That makes it a little better but still poorly designed. Wish it was brighter...like a regular watch would be (thats the reason for four stars). All and all a great product!

CONS: Its Ok would have liked more exercise choices like swimming, or water fitness. Device is not waterproof. Battery dies without warning at times even when its reads its charged. Not sure why PROS: Has many other options, easy to use and convenient. Keeps me motivated glad I didn't pay full price Not sure about accuracy I think its not 100% ball park with the steps as I have jogged in place and had my steps increase by several hundred in seconds. I have also walked an hour and had no steps record Go figure

I had a very difficult time setting up this Surge!! After I took it out of the package, I clicked on the home button, and the screen display said "configuration" and showed the Fitbit web site. It would not go past this screen, no matter which button I pushed or whether I plugged the Surge into the charger. I went to the Fitbit site and figured out how to dowload Fitbit Connect to my computer (my mobile devices are too basic to support Connect), as well as how to set up my Fitbit account. I had plugged the dongle into my computer's USB port, and figured out how to sync the device to the computer, but the screen on the Fitbit I previously described would not go away. I tried several methods to clear this - I reset up the device, went through the Help screens, plugged in the charger as well as unplugged it, uninstalled Connect and reinstalled it. Several times my device would have a failure with syncing with my computer (which by the way operates under Windows 7). I finally contacted Fitbit Customer Support by phone. This was a 52 minute call with a support technician who I had a hard time understanding. We finally figured out that there was a software update that my Surge needed, and the only way to get to that download was by setting up my Fitbit as if it was a new device. This option was available through the Main Menu, which was accessible only by clicking on the Connect icon near my computer's time display in the lower right corner of the screen. The download did take the 5 minutes or so as stated on screen, and this time the update did not disconnect or have an error. A key was keeping my tracker very close to the dongle plugged into the USB port. After the update finished, the clock function showed on screen and all was well. In my opinion, Fitbit should not be sending out devices that are not current with updates.Read full review
