Amongst other things George Macdonald Fraser wrote the Bond film, Octopussy. That was very good, but the 12 Flashman novels were his greatest achievement and it can only be a matter of time before some corporate man of letters realises that they could be as good and as successful as Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe series. Get ahead of the game and treat yourself to the life of a Victorian coward who became a General with a VC. I can't help feeling that he should have gone into politics, after all, he has the charm and morals of pond life. Honestly, these are not to be missed.
