I bought this book for my son after we had found a young pigeon and taken it to a pigeon welfare centre, where it is now fully grown and due to be released. This is a lovely story about a boy who finds a pigeon, cares for the pigeon, gets attached to the pigeon but then has to let the pigeon go free and back to where it belongs. It's a beautiful story that is very moving. If your child is fond of animals and birds I would recommend this book but watch out for the tears. It shows children that some creatures they may get very attached to need to be free and they simply can't be kept in captivity. Beautifully illustrated throughout. Although this book is aimed at children I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This book wasn’t at all what we were expecting. We are huge Julia Donaldson fans and, whilst this story is charming enough, it doesn’t have to usual rhyme and fun factor.
