A poignant journey around the places of interest to anyone with an appreciation of the methods of producing raw materials and components from a by-gone age. The methods are now known and practiced by precious few people. In an era of volume production the preservationists will find the techniques and skilled people appreciated by Fred and highlighted by the book harder to find and replicate. The book needed a few more pictures of the facilities and the techniques employed to help future generations understand how things are made. Having watched the TV series I hoped the book would be a more permanent reminder. In spite of the here today, gone tomorrow world of celebrity status, this book reinforces the view that Fred was one of many decent people, who (except when he was climbing chimneys) kept his feet firmly on the ground.Read full review
