I have used Gigabyte motherboards for the last 15 years and reliability has been excellent. The motherboard has seemed to keep its value very well. It works absolutely fine for what I need, I can go to 6 core 3.6 GHz processors with 4 GHz or more available by overclocking. It does show its age somewhat with only having 2 sata 6 GB ports, but 2 SSD hard drives is plenty. I did notice the VRM heatsinks ran hot but a cooling fan aimed at them has resulted in low running temperatures. Well recommended but do not pay silly prices for this board.

I got this board because as a result of various upgrades and reconfigurations to other systems I had an i7-930 processor and everything needed for a decent system except the motherboard. The first generation i7 processors are not the latest and greatest but still perform very well - the triple channel memory helps. I would have preferred a GA-X58A-UD7 as I already use them but couldn't find one at the right price and this board is very similar. Overall I am very happy and to date have had no problems. Performance is essentially the same as my -UD7 motherboards and reliability has been 100% so far. I don't have the system overclocked but I would expect plenty of potential there, based on what I've seen people do with this and other X58 chipset boards and the i7 processor range. I use it with a SSD boot drive (SATA3) and four rotating drives in RAID5 configuration (SATA2). I am 100% happy with this board as it works and I knew what it did and didn't do before I bought it. The few details that could be important and if you don't do your research might bite you are these: SATA 3 (6Gb/s) is 'deceptive' - the way the Marvel chip connects to the system bus maxes out at 5Gb/s with one or two drives connected. This is a common feature (failing) and is not limited to this motherboard nor Gigabyte motherboards - many early SATA3 implementations used the same Marvel chip and suffer the same. 'Only' two USB3 ports and only on the back panel, there is no motherboard header for USB3 if you have connectors in your case - plenty for USB2 though. 'Only' one 10/100/1G network port - some similar boards have 2. So, know what you are buying and for most people - me included - this is a fine board providing everything needed.Read full review
