Fantastic sounding timeless and a must have

There are 3 or 4 stand out songs on this 1993 album and a superb line up of musicians from varied backgrounds such as Jazz, Soul and Rap. The initial idea of getting all these people together must have seemed a great concept. But there is always a problem of inviting such luminaries to come and help out, and judging by the low production values on the guests contributions, you get the feeling Guru was in danger of being outshone. In general they don't live up to their own billing. That said, tracks such as "No Time To Play", "Trust Me" and "Le Bien, Le Mal" with Ronny Jordan, N'dea Davenport and MC Solaar (the one guest who does step up to the plate) respectively really are very good and if your feet aren't in some sort of shuffle after hearing them, then you shouldn't be aloud out there on your own to buy music.Read full review
I already had this CD so purchased for a friend. Even though quite old with it's first release in 1993 this still sounds as fresh as the first time I heard it. This is a quality fusion of hip-hop and jazz by a true quality craftsman; GURU. Even if, like me, you are not a hip-hop fan this is a must purchase as it takes the best of hip-hop and entangles it with the very best of jazz, soul and groove.
You will have to try and get this album, cos it is a very laid back approche to hip hop and Jazz,Areally good work by Guru
Well Gangstarr knows what he is saying and where he can push the boundaries of hip hop & jazz...he knows that his hip hop can go well with the sexiest music in the world: jazz but he does not mess it up by rapping over real jazz classics he chooses well and makes the most of this newish sound we all love
