This DVD contains George Formby's first, two films (discounting the silent one he made at ten years old, which is now lost), so it's of special significance to his fans. He co-stars with his wife, Beryl, and plays a character named John Willie in both films, who is extremely gormless and clown-like and who insists on wearing a rather silly, very low-crowned bowler hat as though it was his trade mark at the start. The stories are weak and the acting and direction are terrible, though the songs are (generally) good. Thank goodness the film that came after these was twenty times better in every possible way! Still - every great star has to start somewhere, and he was still evidently learning his craft in these early films. A must for any serious Formby fan!
