Exceptionally rare, as-new, first-and-only edition of this brilliant architectural monograph.
Published in 2007 by The Lighthouse and RIAS (the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland), this book marked the landmark retrospective exhibition of the same title, which ran at the Lighthouse in Glasgow from 3 November 2007 - 10 February 2008. The book and exhibition celebrated the phenomenally productive and architecturally striking period of Gillespie Kidd and Coia partners Andy Macmillan (b. 1928) Isi Metzstein (1928-2012). Edited by the author, critic, historian and architectural educator Johnny Rodger, with contributions by architect and educator Gordon Benson, architect, critic and historian Mark Baines, and the late architect Colin St John Wilson; with editorial and archival contributions by David Buri. Features six chapters: 'Towards the Macmillan and Metzstein Years' (pp. 6-25), 'Selected Works' (pp. 26-47) and 'Major Works' (pp. 236-243) by Johnny Rodger; 'Sources, Ideas and Lessons' (pp. 26-47) by Gordon Benson; 'Themes and Variations' (pp. 48-69) by Mark Baines; and 'An Appreciation' (pp. 232-235) by Colin St John Wilson. Additional content includes a foreward by Nick Barley, the former director of the Lighthouse, bibliography, biographies, photo credits and index. Hundreds of black & white and colour photographs, plans, sections, elevations. Book is new, in perfect condition (photographs of open pages above are of my own copy). The book will be bubble wrapped and sent by tracked delivery in a padded envelope as per delivery terms set out on this page. Any questions - please ask. This is one of less than a dozen copies known to be on sale - out of print since 2009. Check the ISBN on Alibris, Amazon and Abebooks and compare the price! Edit (4/2/2012): Buy it now price added. I have been informed that I may be able to source a further copy of this book, condition unknown, possibly new. Please watch for further auctions if you are unsuccessful this time. |
