It was the title which prompted me to buy this film. Also, some of my favourite actors had parts in this film which was another reason for purchasing. Different to the usual wartime films, with an unusual twist towards the ending.

This movie is one of the best to come out of the British stable with a truly stirling cast headed by Bill Nighy and Jenny Agutter as the heads of the Keyes family. Also starring David Tennant (Dr Who), Romola Garai, Julie Christie and Christopher Lee, the movie deals with a little known period of British pre - World War II history, the period of anti appeasement. There was a group of nobility who were firmly convinced that the British Prime Minister of the time Neville Chamberlain was wasting his time in 1938 trying to negotiate peace terms with the Chancellor of Germany, Adolf Hitler who was bent on gaining total world domination and would stop at nothing to get it. These were dangerous times particularly for the English living in London at the time and the movie accurately reflects the mood of the people, the behind the scenes chicanery which went on and what this anti appeasement group represented in terms of a solution. Filled with suspense this movie will enthrall you, but will also delight you with its lighter moments from start to finish. Director Stephen Poliakoff said in a recent interview that had it not been for this anti appeasement group in the early prelude stages to the war, he and his family who are Jewish probably would not be in existence today. Bearing this in mind it is at least worthwhile to view the movie, enjoy the acting of some notable names in the acting industry today who deliver fine performances and see what you think.Read full review
