Invaluable help in understanding the way we think and why we do , thus making one realise that we are not set in stone personalities, and our harmful ways of perceiving reality can be scrutinized and worked on. Depression truly is a self-imposed prison and the book is a dear and intimate companion on the way out. It saved my life. I love you Dorothy Rowe!!!

I went through yet another bout of the black dog depression and came across this book. I have to say it's the very best book I have ever read on the subject. It's easy to read in bite-sized chunks, and easy to dip into - you don't have to read it from cover to cover if you don't want to, as it's easy to look up certain aspects as there's a comprehensive index at the back of the book. I'd highly recommend this book to other sufferers and those living and caring for sufferers of the debilitating illness. I bought a couple more copies to give to friends who I know suffer from it.
