This is a story which takes place on board HMS Ulysses whilst protecting a Russia bound convoy in WW2. The story is very well told and you can almost feel the extreme cold and general suffering of the crew as they struggle to stay awake. It was originally to be made into a film but I believe it was judged to be too expensive to produce. One of those books it is difficult to put down as the action is almost continuous and gripping at every turn. Highly recommended.

A book I first read over 40 years ago. My copy fell apart so bought another. After all this time it is still a fascinating, gripping story by a master author.
