Much customised Harley Davidson MT350. 1960s inspired
'Very nimble around town and fierce fun on the back lanes'
'Riding a slow bike fast is far more fun than riding fast bike slow'
If you know nothing about these bikes, then read on:
This bike was originally used by the military police, so will have seen little or no off road use and has never been used in an operational theatre, It had just over 8000 kilometres (approx 5000 miles) on the clock when I got it.
I registered this bike in May 2012 and since then I have only done 500 miles on it.
Here is a list of the work carried out:
The original speedometer has been swapped for one from an Aermacchi SS350 showing 8000miles, but the true mileage is closer to 5500 miles. I have installed a German made rev counter and a stainless steel dash.
A 7" round headlight exchanges the original square light and a reproduction Harley Davidson stop light and stainless steel bracket replaces the OEM tail light.
The frame has been shot blasted and powder coated. Two coats of powder were applied, the first is a zinc rich coat which gives rust protection properties and this was the over laid with a gloss black finish.
The plastic mudguards have been replaced with a steel one at the rear and an aluminium one on the front.
The engine has been soda blasted and sprayed silver. All the bolts, nuts and washers on the bike, except the main engine mount and the wheel spindles have been replaced with stainless steel. This bike should remain rust free for many years.
The rear exhaust section is an after market stainless steel can and stainless steel heat shield has been fixed to the mid section.
Pirelli Scorpion enduro tyres give good road and off road handling.
A 1950s reproduction Harley Davidson logo has been added to the tank.
Custom indicators with hazard light function add to over all road safety. New switch gear and vintage style horn.
Original Ohlin shocks have been stripped and sprayed and the springs have been shot blasted and powder coated.
Suzuki Bandit mirrors.
K&N air filter.
The carburettor has been cleaned, re-jetted and tuned to give a little more bottom end grunt. A stainless steel carburettor bracket now supports the carburettor in the absence of the air box.
New clutch, oil filter, oil, battery, seat cover, timing belt, fresh oil, fork seals and sport grade suspension fluid for a firmer ride.
To summarise, this was like a new bike. It is still a very high standard example and rides amazingly well, but I have removed the neutral light switch internals to make it easier to locate the neutral position and some of the top gloss coat of powder coat has rubbed off on the foot pegs (to be expected), but the zinc coat remains in tact.
I will supply a CD of manuals, useful information including a list of parts dealers and photographs of the bike before, during and after restoration to the new owner.
I have probably forgotten a couple of things, so if you have any questions, please ask.
