Before buying this disk, i did an extensive search to find a drive that had a good performance, decent size and acceptable price. I also selected this particular HDD because the seller had a good feedback. Now, after having used it for several weeks, i still think i made the best choice.
What's to say - its a cheap (small) 2.5" IDE laptop drive. I use these with Freenas and an old thin client box to create a very low power, remotely managed, bit torrent downloading box that gets left on all the time using about 9 watts. Can't really use flash memory for this because the drive is constantly writing when downloading. Saves wear and tear on my main computer and NAS drives and, if I need to replace it every couple of years, it's hardly a major expense. Steve
I needed additional storage space for backing up the contents of my laptop. I had a spare outer case and decided to opt for a Hitachi Travelstar. When it arrived I put it in the casing and it worked for me perfectly first time, no software required. I bought the casing about 4 years ago on Ebay for £5.00 so the total for a 40GB portable storage unit (8mm x 100mm x 65mm) was £26.00.
