I first read Half a World after picking up an ex-library copy at s book sale and devoured it! It was until I had finished it that I realised it was the second in a trilogy, Half a War being the third book. I enjoyed this book, too, but after a thrilling first half, the second half felt a bit rushed, almost as though the author couldn't wait to find out the ending, never mind the reader. I don't think I have ever read a book or set of books that I have shared so many emotions/feelings with. Joe Abercrombie's ability to view the world from another's perspective is superb and he isn't afraid to make it real. It is a fantasy book with kings and queens, princesses and knights, but without the sugar coating and I absolutely love it. There is a deeper message which becomes apparent in this third volume, which I didn't like at first as it I thought it dragged in some unnecessary 'realism', but the more I think about it, the more I feel that the world could do with a few more books like this. And if there is ever a film made from any of these books, I would love to play Thorn Bathu;-)Read full review
