This is a long-established product which has been available under several different names over several decades, originally as Finnigans, the makers of Hammerite way back. I have been using it for three decades or more on rusty metal and I find that if you follow the instructions and apply as advised it really works. It prevents rust spreading, covers it and neutralises it and can be over-painted with most types of paint. I have used it on all manner of things and always had good results. It is far from cheap, and getting harder to find, too, but it's worth it. I just wish they would pack it in 1-litre cans as well as 250 ml or 2.5 litres. 250 ml costs a lot pro rata, and 2.5 litres tends to skin over unless you use it every few days so you lose the product in the form of skin that has to be thrown away. Even so, it works and that's more than can be said for a lot of rust "cures." I have always found the dark brown version better than the "beige" (almost pink) which is seemingly not such a strong pigment and MUST be overpainted or rust will eventually come through, whereas the dark brown can be left if desired and won't give trouble. Despite what the makers say, if you clean the brush immediately, you can use proprietary brush cleaners and don't need to buy their expensive product. Not a lot of people know that!Read full review

how the couriers managed to deliver this tin of paint has to be seen to be believed, it looked as if it had been hit with a sledge hammer a quarter of the paint had leaked out and somebody had put plastic bags over it to stop it dripping out, I have photos of it , it appears to me that the supplier had not packed it correctly it was in a cardboard tube which was too long, I guess it was sliding about in the tube the lid came loose and somebody hit with a hammer or some heavy object to try and seal it without success ,unfortunately I was out when it was delivered as I would have refused to accept it

Unfair to ask is it good quality yes or no as nobody can answer that until it’s been proved over a period of time I would say over 2 years minimum, but Hammerite paints are generally a well known product but I can’t say that right now.
