About this product

Product Information

Haruki Murakami's best-loved stories finally in graphic novel form! Haruki Murakami's novels, essays and short stories have sold millions of copies worldwide and been translated into scores of languages. Now for the first time, in this three-volume series, Murakami's best-loved stories are available in manga form in English. With their trademark mix of realism and fantasy, centering around Murakami's signature themes of loss, remorse and confusion. The three stories in this volume are: The Second Bakery Attack : A newlywed couple lie in bed, hungry. The man tells his wife about when he and a friend robbed a bakery and stole bread to feed themselves for two days. On hearing this story, the woman suggests they try the same thing again. " [...] exemplifies Murakami's sense of the fragility of the ordinary world." -- Kirkus Reviews Samsa in Love: An extension of the tale of Gregor Samsa in Kafka's The Metamorphosis . The main character wakes up to find himself transformed into someone named Samsa, then falls in love with a hunchback woman who comes to fix the lock on his door. " Samsa in Love is part of a lineage, going back to the original publication of The Metamorphosis in 1915 and extending up to (and beyond?) the present day." -- Los Angeles Times Thailand : A middle-aged woman takes a break from her job as a doctor to go on holiday in Thailand. She learns from a spirit doctor that her sterile life and inability to forgive have created a rock in her gut, which will be all that remains of her after she is dead. "His characters are so persuasive, and the storytelling so spacious.... Murakami's crisp, accomplished stories...have great immediacy." -- The Seattle Times These new graphic versions of classic Murakami short stories will be devoured by his fans and will provide a new window onto his work for a new generation of readers not yet familiar with it! **Recommended for readers ages 16+ due to mature themes and graphic content**

Reviews
"This is a must-read for Murakami buffs and a quirky invitation into the writer's perspective and preoccupations for newcomers." -- Publishers Weekly, "What happens when two of my favorite things combine? Comics and Murakami! Can't wait to read these." -- Jeff Lemire, artist & creator of Sweet Tooth, Black Hammer, Gideon Falls and many more, "Murakami is one of the most celebrated writers alive today. Now you can experience [...] his best-loved short stories in manga form, with offbeat art to match the equally bizarre subject matter. Long-time fans are sure to appreciate this new approach to Murakami's work, while newcomers will find it an evocative introduction." -- Book Riot, "The illustration style isn't what I normally think of as manga ...It is both more detailed and a little more grotesque: instead of wide-eyed, beautiful people, the characters in these books have wrinkles and warts, they're caught making unflattering faces or bent into odd poses. They do feel like they fit the stories, with that vague sense of unease, and the blurring of the line between reality and fantasy." -- GeekDad.com, "For the first time, Murakami's renowned work is adapted into manga, and it is glorious! [...] There are three volumes scheduled to be published over the coming months, so keep your eye out for Murakami magic next year!" -- Book Riot

This delivery was earliest date! Condition, value, quality - all as described. (My mistake was not requiring the publishing date to be 1958. This was 1977.) This IS a Viking Portable Library copy of Dante's Divine Comedy in English, translated by Laurence Binyon, but it is with a cover DIFFERENT from what was shown. The tracking number was listed as from "UPS", but should have been listed as from "USPS." Contact with this seller alleviated tracking issues. I recommend this seller! Thank you!

Arrived 13 days after purchase. Digipak 3 CD came in brown paper packaging coated on the inside. Not much protection for cardboard digipack, somehow it arrived in near perfect condition. Could have used some bubble wrap /sturdy cardboard. Tracking gave no information. Messaged them & they assured me it was on it's way. Location reads Florida. They ship from all over / my package read Jamaica, NY. Got a 3 CD Deluxe Edition in GREAT CONDITION at BARGAIN PRICE ! Nervous ride/Happy ending 😀👍
