I was used to shoot digital and analog, but just in 35mm (Nikon F100, D3). Even though I was quite happy with my setup, I always like the 6x6 format and I don't like cropping images. So I thought about a Hasselblad because I wanted a light waist-level camera. A Mamiya was either to heavy and slow to operate, or not waist-level. Rollei was also too bulky and Rolleiflex or Rolleicord can't use a digital back which I want to purchase in a few years. So Hasseblad was my only choice. And I choose the 203 FE because for my shooting style (Reportage and Indoor/outdoor available-light portraits), the built-in exposure meter and the 1/2000sec. max shutter speed came in very handy (so I can use f/2.8 in sunlight) I have now shot and developped some black and white films and color films and I'm extremely happy with the quality of the pictures. I love the way of shooting with a waist-level finder camera and the look the pictures get, especially the DOF with the aperture wide open. With that big screen you concentrate more on the image itself than on the control of the camera. You can use it on tripod and take your time for an exact composition, and in aperture priority mode, the camera is quite fast and flexible to work with. Can't wait to get a digital back :) I'm extremely happy with it and give it a ''highy recommended''Read full review
let's begin with the obvious - film is not going away within the next 100 years - regardless what the electronics industry says. the 203fe fast outstripped the 205fcc to become the ne plus ultra of the entire Hasselblad system. while other manufacturers went the completely electronic route, the engineers at goteborg kept true to Victor's original vision of a focal plane box camera. simplicity done well, costs. this is not an inexpensive item, but it does reward the photographer with instant control, consistant results and some of the greatest glass the photographic world has ever seen. all zeiss lenses will work with the 203fe, albeit with some loss of automation and full aperture meter readings. the camera is a legend and in this digital age, difficult to come by. and the reason for that is simple - the photographers who own one are keeping it! if you can find one, snap it up. you will need go no futher, as you will have acquired the very best in medium format cameras. i've been doing this for 5 decades and this camera is the observed rolls royce of medium format. one note of caution, if possible, buy it with the waist level finder. these are very difficult to get and hasselblad usa and sweden do not have any more of these in stock. the catalogue number is 42317 and they have the cutout in the front of the frame which seats over the meter readout window. the finders for the 500 series cameras will not fit the 203fe or 205fcc cameras. and by the way, avoid at all costs, the fujiblad. souless piece of injected molded plastic with no zeiss glass! it's too bad that hasselblad went out of business - but zeiss just introduced 3 new (old) lenses, all in stunning brushed silver - the 50, 120 and 180mm with shutters. be the first on your block to own the new "classic" lens line for the 500 series!Read full review
Great camera that was fully apreciated after it was discontinued in 2004. Metering system, auto and bracketing function are all excellent. Flashcontrol is very versatile and gives freedom without limitations. These cameras are not becoming cheaper , prices are rising!
