With old I3 computers for sale out there for $100 or less this is a great upgrade to speed up the system. Note though this is a 95 watt processor and you will be replacing a 60 watt one. Stock cpu coolers will need to be replaced. Couple it with an SSD and 16 GB of memory and it should be able to handle anything Microsoft and Windows will toss at it for at least a few years.

I had an i5 2500k that was overclock to 4.9ghz.replaced it with this cpu that can only be overclock to 4.2ghz(no matter what you try) as I am getting lock ups and bsod.I have it installed in a large case, well ventilated, using AIO,all well known brand components .

Second one of these I have bought. Need I say more? I build bullet proof, fast, non-overclocked machines for Family and Friends. This one is for my Brother. Used with a Corsair Force GT SSD, Corsair 1600 RAM on an ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe motherboard, it takes longer to post than to be surfing the net after it starts getting the OS from the hard drive/SSD. I would say boot time is only about 10% faster than the i5-2500K's I have, so if you want to save $100 that is an option.
The i7 2600 is the highest CPU up grade you can put into a Dell Optiplex 790 MT. The unit does exactly was it is supposed to do. Faster speed on streaming videos and very fast on gaming.

Arrived two days early and was easy to install. Works as it should and after 7 years since it came out in 2011, it's still able to hold its own against modern tasks and AAA gaming titles.
