Like all Jonny's humour it is based , somwhere along the line, on oppression, self depreciation, humiliation. 'Ice cream' is no exception. JV has lost his mojo, his attempts to tell jokes about wine bars and a full walet fall flat. The only hope for redemption is for him to be beaten, used, and abused.Frustrated and flattened he bounds back with a joke about two choc ices-brilliant. The DVD is cheap as chips and for that one gag alone it is worth it.Share it with your friends-give it away for Christmas.
I don't mind Johnny Vegas, from what shows I had seen before he had been quite funny but this DVD was anything but! Johnny has subjected himself to humiliation and bullying in a sad way and the DVD was hard to watch because of this.. He gets kidnapped by some brute of a man, who is apparently there to help his career, and is helped along by an owner of an ice-cream company.. Johnny is put on stage at various venues but is pulled off and beaten when he doesnt say the ice cream slogan!! It goes on and on.. it actually was so bad and even so I watched it all the way through hoping it would get better... it didnt! It had no proper end and just left me feeling like I had just wasted an hour of my life!!!
Vegas has reduced the status of glove puppets back to the level they were in the days of Lennie the Lion. For too many years puppets have had one over on comics, but anyway this wasnt in the DVD I bought, Johnny is just brilliantly funny and knows that behind the PC fascade of this country is a humour thats silly yet that we all think this way from time to time A modern day Bennie Hill meets Eric Morcombe
