james 2nd album has a lot to live up to! after the huge sucess of "back to bedlam" with the killer singles "you're beautiful" and "goodbye my lover" its good if you already like him but nothing new! he reminds me of a cross between chris de burgh and tracy chapman! i love tracy...i dont like chris de burgh! the album opens with the first single "1973" and although i think its one of the best i get a bit lost cos was mr blunt born in 1973 well he certainly was'nt out partying like the song suggests! so although its a great catchy track it seems its a bit "what rhymes with this" still its catchy..8/10 "one of the brightest stars" is too much like chris de burgh..a bit sickly sweet! 4/10 "ill take everything" has some great lyrics..but not amazing! 6/10 "same mistake" is a great song ruined by one verse about sending men to fight....yes james was in the army but it doesnt fit in and ruins a great track! 6/10 "carry me home" is a great track except a lyric thrown in to appeal to the american market! so many bands have tried it..it doesnt work! and you fans in the uk can see through it...usa artists wouldnt think of doing it to appear more cred to us in the uk..so why do british artists do it! 7/10 "give me some love" is a filler 7/10 "i really want you" is probably me favourite track! but if you read the lyrics one set of lyrics seems out of context and spoils the feel of the song 8/10 "shine on" is ok but nothing special1 "annie" is ok pleasant enough but forgettable#2 "i cant hear music" ends the album with probably the best track on the album...its a killer track and oneof the few where he sounds like hes singing from expereince and the soul! in a brief! fans of mr blunt wont be dissapionted! but if you look a little deeper a lot of the songs seems formulated! wont break new groud but still a good follow up!Read full review
Vast success traditionally has an alienating effect on rock stars. Fame and wealth removes them from the real world, insulating them from public opinion. You would be forgiven for assuming such a fate had befallen James Blunt. Two years into his recording career, he lives in an Ibizan mansion with a nightclub in its basement, paid for with the proceeds of the biggest-selling album of the 21st century thus far: his debut, Back to Bedlam, has shifted 14m copies. If you believe the gossip columns, his life seems to primarily consist of getting his aristocratic leg over with celebrity hotties: Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Mischa Barton, Tara Palmer-Tomkinson and a Pussycat Doll, names that rather suggest intellectual profundity may not be uppermost in the former Household Cavlary officer's check-list of feminine prerequisites. But despite the rarefied lifestyle, news has clearly reached Blunt that a lot of people seem to hate both him and his music. "Me and my guitar play my way," he wails, midway through Back to Bedlam's follow-up, on a song called Give Me Some Love. "It makes them frown."Read full review
The DVD is Probably Better than the CD as it has the Video to the best track on the Album on it - '1973'! James seems to have written and co-written an Album of average songs second time around with only 'Carry Me Home' being another outstanding track here in this Collection. A fair attempt James!
James Blunt. Once loved by millions, now out of favour or even despised by some...why? Some don't seem to like 'him', the way he is.....me? I just want to listen to the music and, it's really good! I have no interest in the 'people' behind music at all, not the singer, the band or anyone involved in the process of 'making' it at all. I simply judge music by it's reaction on 'me' and my responses to to it. I purchased this cd because I had previosly purchased James Blunt's "Back to Bedlam" cd which is superb in my view. This is not 'quite' of the same calibre but still very good indeed. Still the same style but with the hard edge taken off by somewhat more processing and softer accompaniment. It's a shame James Blunt seems to have fallen 'out of favour' to many. His music is still very vibrant, fresh, original and carries some strong personal lyrics. RECOMMENDED.Read full review
Whenever a very different sounding album like 'Back to Bedlam' comes along, and it sells in millions (as it indeed did), inevitably you get the success backlash. I'm sure that this is the reason most 2nd albums are unsuccessful but never the less I tried to have an open mind with the release of 'All the lost Souls'. From the poppy '1973' through to the emotion provoking 'Carry You Home' (which is easily as good as 'Goodbye My Lover' and a great deal less 'sickly sweet' than 'Beautiful', and to the easy listening sunday morning 'coffee and papers' of 'Shine On', this is an excellent follow up to one of the best breakthrough albums of recent times. If you liked Back to Bedlam you will like All the Lost Souls...Fact. Ballad fatigue.....not a chance!
