If you own and love James Morrison’s debut album “Undiscovered” then you no doubt have this album too! So who should this review be for and who will read it anyway?! That aside I will indulge as I always do - after all our hosts eBay have asked me to review!! Morrison pens all his own songs (with the assistance from a number of co-writers) and offers up only the vocals on the recording (the list of musicians that play on the album is massively long) but none of that should deter and this is a superb album from start to finish. It’s not pop; it’s not rock; it’s not something I would ever want to classify into a pigeon-hole anyway; it’s just a well written and well-preformed collection of tracks dominated in spades by that voice. So distinctive, so emotional - and so damned good! Opening the album is “The Only Night”; imagine a host of talented musicians taking to the stage and simply enjoying themselves as they belt out a quality foot-tapper that demands to be listened to and enjoyed by casual passers by. If you love music you’ll just want to step inside and enjoy some more! That’s the impression that the first track gives me and with ears wide open now there is much more to enjoy. The track “You Make It Real” will be one you’ve probably heard before; it’s one of those songs that you hear and then without knowing it your singing the lines in work, in the car, at the bus-stop or just inside your head! Fantastic! "Please Don't Stop the Rain" was a single release as was “Broken Strings" (featuring Nelly Furtado) which was the ‘hit single’ you will recognise. It’s a great song but this album doesn’t stop there; there are many better songs that make this very much a breeze for me to listen to. "Nothing Ever Hurt Like You" has a distinct 60’s motown/soul type feel with it’s percussive style and brass complement. "Once When I Was Little" and "If You Don't Wanna Love Me" are both simple but so, so effective with their great lyrics and moody feel. I’ve always loved the sound of a Hammond organ so "Precious Love" is always going to work for me; again the style ‘looks back’ to a day when music meant something to its performers and Morrison is just one of a few who have bought the emotion back to modern day music. Recommended listening for the more discerning of musical tastes.Read full review
James Morrison's second album. The first was "Undiscovered" and recorded in 2006 this, latest nearly two years later. The biggest hit off this album to date, and still getting air time is the sensational "You make it real". I can't listen to this without singing along. It is that good. I love "Please don't stop the rain". Typical of James Morrison this one. He just has that unique sound that when he sings, you believe everything he says. He makes every song so personal. He knows what he is good at and sticks with it. My favourite track is "Once when I was little". I can actually associate to this one. It staggered me the first time I heard it because it was "ME". The chorus is so accurate it was scary. "If you don't wanna love me" is another sensational offering. I'm not gonna list every track as that would be pointless. I cannot praise this album enough. It sounds fresh every time I play it. If you only buy one album in the next few years... make sure it is this album. Is that praise enough???Read full review
I was looking forward to the new CD but was disappointed. The new CD lacks the drive that the debut CD delivered and there are no memborable songs for me that I want to hear over and over again such as the songs in the first CD. Sorry, James Morrison, you've not given me something this time around! Tolfield
Every track a winner! Brilliant CD and I didn't even pay full price!! These songs have made me want to to see James Morrison live more than ever!!
