regarding the new Digital lenses, this old Vintage lens have others avantages than take sharp at FA, specially if you look for photo and video ... excellent portret lens, a bit soft at F2, with flare and mood in the blurry background with warm colors, also called the "Bokeh", it became sharper whith the diaph for an excellent performance at F5,6 ... it's a classical lens, all glass and metal, diaph quite circular with 15 blades for a smmoth Bokeh, this soviet lens has no competitors for its unique Vintage result ... and for a very nice price ... the MC version is more accurate at F2, with more contrast for a crispy result ... A great Vintage lens, really ! ... both with film and Digital ... ; ) Brollography

Great lens - metal built, smooth, good focus throw. It is not sharp at all at F2, but when stopped down to F2.8 the sharpness increases a lot! I recommend.

I wanted a good 85mm portrait lens for mi Canon 5D, but I couldn't afford the Canon L or the Sigma. A friend introduced me in Russian lenses and I read a lot of amazing reviews about Jupiter 9. Finally, I got a copy from a shop in Ukraïne. Jupiter 9 is a little, but solid, well built lens. It delivers very sharp images without any distortion. I like their colour. I recommend to use a focus confirm adapter, because the narrow depth of field, and a hood to avoid flare. It is not a cheap lens, but you will find that is worth your money.
Understand that you're looking at a lens approaching 50 years old. It will have some mechanical issues. However, the Jupiter-9 is legendary for a host of reasons, mainly very distinctive image quality. Preset lenses require a different approach than modern lenses; this approach makes you think your way through your shot more thoroughly. It isn't dainty. You can certainly hand-hold it to shoot, but using a tripod is a great approach. I looked for one like this for over a year and (so far) it has been well worth the wait.
