Don't let the slightly tacky cover put you off... Pretty much every hit from the lads on one CD, and even the lesser known tracks selected don't let the side down. Good sound quality througout, with a good mix of tracks that avoids putting all the hits in the first half of the disc. Try not to tap your feet and boogie round the kitchen to this when played....!

If you only want Kool & the Gang's hit singles from the tail end of the '70s onward, and/or already have the '70s hits covered somewhere else, you could do far worse than Singles Collection, a fairly thorough anthology of the group's mainstream era. "Celebration," "Ladies Night," "Joanna," "Take My Heart (You Can Have It if You Want It)," "Cherish," "Fresh," "Get Down On It," "Too Hot," and several others are included. "Tonight" and "Emergency" could've fit, but they were left off for some inexplicable reason. If it weren't for these significant flaws, the disc would be very easy to recommend as excellent. Once Ladies Night put them in the charts they never looked back until their last sizeable hit, Cherish in '85. Since then they've rather lived off re-mixes of Celebration although they're in the spotlight again following Atomic Kitten's cover of Ladies Night. Although disco has a habit of not tackling meaty issues, Kool and the Gang did score a surprise hit with the mellow Jones vs Jones - all about divorce. 18 tracks included; if you're of a certain age you'll recognise each one.Read full review
For me this is the definitive collection of the band's '80s singles. There are other compilations that contain various hits from their '70s funk era but at a loss of some of the songs on this one. Therefore, I would recommend this cd, plus one that would encompass their earlier stuff and you'd have a pretty definitive collection of their best ever stuff. But without this compilation, you'd have to buy a few CDs to get their definitive work.
