Walk from your front door through 50 acres of our own beautiful ancient meadows & woodlands, straight onto the Black Mountains, in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

A Hill Walkers & Nature Lovers paradise, with direct access onto the Gaer Mountain which forms the southern side of the spectacular Llanthony Valley. Visit the 12th century ruins of the Abbey, (lovely pub in the grounds), continue on foot, bicycle or by car to Hay-on-Wye (world famous for second-hand books and the annual Literary Festival).

This is a very special part of Wales, the sheltering hills of the market town of Abergavenny forming a chain linking the Black Mountains with the Brecon Beacons.

Peace, tranquility, starry nights, wild flowers, ravens, buzzards.........etc, etc

Pony Trekking, Golf, Fishing, nearby.

This cosy stone cottage consists of

1 double bedroom with king-size brass double bed upstairs, & one single bedroom (pull out extra bed if required) on the ground floor,

 both ensuite (baths with shower attachment).

Fitted kitchen/dining room with antique pine dresser & usual mod cons:  Electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine. 

And here's the eccentric bit.... also in the kitchen a pretty well in tune UPRIGHT PIANO!

Comfortable sitting-room with flat screen TV/DVD, heated by electric radiators as well as supplementary heaters.

Private patio. Raised large private terrace.

Large lawn shared with next door cottage, with paths leading through our land, up onto the hills beyond

There is wonderful eating and drinking in the area including:

The Skirrid Inn (supposed to be Wales oldest pub), 2 miles, Queens Head, 1 mile, The Crown at Pantygelli, The Clytha Arms, nr Raglan, very dog friendly!, The Foxhunter Inn, nr Usk, The famous Walnut Tree at Llandewi Skirrid, The Bell at Skenfrith, The Hardwick, award winning restaurant at Penpergwm, the Angel Hotel in Abergavenny, (fantastic award winning afternoon teas!) the wonderful atmospheric Abbey Pub in the grounds of Llanthony Priory in one of Wales' most beautiful valleys, LLANTHONY VALLEY, the famous Bear Inn in Crickhowell and many more.



We have our own delicious spring water which supplies the cottage..... why not bring containers & take some home with you?

We escaped the city at New Year and enjoyed a wonderful, peaceful time in this cosy cottage. The warm welcome, mince pies to die for, generous hens and a peanut-feasting woodpecker all added to the magic. Memorable days were spent exploring the limestone cliffs at Craig y Cilau, and Llanthony Priory and Hay-on-Wye. We wish we were snowed in and didn't have to leave! Like so many who have been here, we look forward to coming again. C, N, & J, Manchester

Weather variable from gale force winds to beautiful sunshine, and the cottage snug and warm throughout. A delightful rural and quaint cottage. We have thoroughly enjoyed the varied walks from the door and the walk up Hatterall Hill at Llanthony. Thank you for the "home from home", the eggs, milk andthe mince pies! P & S - France

Our first time at Gaer Cottage and had a very relaxing time but with some long walks - circular from the book in the cottage. Lucky with the weather maybe, but overall very welcoming environment and cottage. Hope to come again! S & J

23rd August 2013........ "C Family - over 4 generations!" When I planned a family holiday with 4 generations I had thoughts of stress and not managing to please everyone. Instead this has been one of the best holidays ever - cottages, garden, chickens & friendliness have made it perfect! Will be back next summer.

24th May 2013.... Thank you for the cottage. Excellent all round. Lovely place for walking. Managed Offa's Dyke from Chepstow to Hay-on-Wye. I didn't know Welsh cakes were so good!

7th May 2013.... Our dear old dog has had a ball plodding around at her leisure, and at 16 years there may be few opportunites left for her. We will take with us some very special memories indeed. Bank Holiday weather must have been the best for forty years!

19th April 2013...Thank you, lovely cottage and surrounding + warm welcome with daffodils, welshcakes and eggs. We have explored and walked for miles, but most of all relaxed - a little taste of retirement. Hope to be back some day. P&J, Kent.

21st Jan 2013...... We have had a great week at Gaer Cottage. When we arrived we didn't realise the week ahead would be the red weather warning for snow! We woke up to 6" snow everywhere so we've done most of our walking from the cottage, due to a stuck car! The cottage has been a great base, LOVELY and warm!! Monty our dog has loved your land being most of the time off the thank you. The fresh eggs a great start to the day. S, J and Monty

We climbed Pen Y Fan in gale force winds and Pen Cerrig in a blizzard but all was worth it on returning to this cosy cottage!.....P.S. loved watching the birds on the feeder every morning - especially the woodpecker. 30th July, 2010. We would just like to say what a lovely time we've all had at Gaer Cottage. The rustic charm wooed us! A,I,C & I. Dorset.
..........we have had a fantastic time staying at Cwm Coed-y-Cerrig. We cycled to Llanthony Priory which was a gentle climb most of the way there, but the free-wheeling home was fantastic. The Priory is a brilliant place to play "hide & seek" if you're 2 years old. The cook in the bar was very friendly.......We had great fun visiting the chickens.........,J,D & E 18th-20 June,2010

......the cottage is really lovely with everything we needed. We saw the woodpecker feeding and also a squirrel and along with many other birds at the bird feeder. We have walked, driven and generally had a great time!! Would recommend the Skirrid Inn and also The Bear at Crickhowell for good food. Enjoyed the Welsh cakes and free range eggs.
