This is a pure replacement for my long gone, and much missed, LP bought during my student days. I had the pleasure of watching him perform many of these uncompromising tracks, live in Leeds in the 70's. Lyrics, supported by varied music styles, that take you on an emotional roller coaster. From the vibrant peak of 'I Can't Stand It', dropping to the somber troughs of tracks such as 'Berlin' and 'Lisa Says', he retains the earthy beginnings of the Velvet Underground's raw honesty, interlaced with the seeds of things to come. Anyone who enjoyed 'Transformer', should quite happily take this short step back in time, and further enhance their appreciation of one of the godfathers of modern rock. The CD comes with a booklet giving insight into his personal and turbulent early years, when striving for acceptance in respect of acquiring airplay. A short but interesting read in itself.Read full review
