You need to weigh up pros and cons for portable handheld label printers vs, this type. For me this has been an excellent purchase and I'd buy one again. In general if you pay full price for this one though, it will likely cost you quite alot more than several of the handheld types. But this one easy to use on Windows 7. You don't even need to install an application on your PC as it will run from the device itself when you plug it in on USB, though there is more advanced sw you can download and install as well. But with this particular model over many others, you get a great range of Fonts and print sizes, easier ways to print say labels with an image/picture in them PLUS it takes several different size label reals, this for me was one major decision to buy it. (I find 12mm width too big for labelling cables and other items round the house, so the 9mm and 6mm labels it can take are what I needed). The other great feature is no AA or AAA batteries to deal with - it has Li-Ion rechargeable battery, charged via USB.Read full review
Very clever printer in a very compact form. Very easy to connect and set up and easy to use pc software enabling very quick entry and printing of labels.

This is a handy device to have around. It prints on various widths up to 12mm. Really nice feature is that tapes are available to print light colours on dark tape (I have white print on black tape). There is also an extra strong vinyl/flexible tape available which is UV stable so suitable for outdoor use and flexible enough for cable labelling etc. The unit has a lite version of the labelling software internally- just plug the thing into a USB port and the software's available on the virtual USB drive that appears on your computer (Mac/PC compatible, not sure if there's a way to get this working on Linux). There's an internal lithium battery that auto-recharges and supplements the USB port's power during printing, so no external power supply required. There is also a fully featured software suite available to download for free from the Dymo website that gives advanced features such as barcoding, QR codes, image/logo import, serial numbering etc. The software's fairly good, but it does leave an excessive amount of blank tape at the start and finish of the print (good way for Dymo to make more money from people using more tape than necessary). I overcome this by combining multiple labels into one print, then cutting the individual labels with scissors. There are far cheaper compatible (D1) tapes available on eBay which seem to be just as good quality as the originals, so that's another way to get the best bang for your Pound with these things. Would recommend.Read full review

I started out with a Brother hand help label maker and it was very complicated to use. The Dymo has been a joy - easy and simple to use nicely constructed, with very clever software llinking it to the computer via a simple USB connection. Cannot fault it. The machine is pretty to look at and robust - much like the Mac I use.

Just got this label printer, plugged in, hooked up, working almost straight away. Not wireless as far as I can tell, but good enough..
