This is an excellent laptop for travelling. The machine is light and robust and has an outstanding battery life with the 6-cell battery that it came with. I am going to add a 3 cell internal battery and a WWAN card, since this particular model doesn't have those installed out of the box. The plumbing for both is already there. As with all the previous Thinkpads I have used it is easily user serviceable with no drama, unscrewing the base allows access to all the innards. I replaced the supplied 500GB HDD with a Samsung SSD and it is happily running both Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.10. If I had to quibble I would complain about the relatively low resolution screen, 1366x768, but this is not a major issue since it is quite small at 12.5" and in any case a 1920 x 1080 option, and touch, are also available. The new trackpad is also an acquired taste, but the iconic red button is still there, albeit in the middle of a chiclet keyboard these days. The new shape, with a more extended palm rest than previous X series Thinkpads makes typing easier and a VGA port is still there, hurrah. It doesn't do the fancy One Dock like the S400 and X1 Thinkpads, but there is still an old school docking port on the underside which I haven't tried yet. Very pleased with it. All in all, a worthy successor to previous X series Thinkpads that improves on the formula with a better shape and a clever internal battery (when it is fitted...) that allows hot swapping the external battery.Read full review
