For many years I've avoided using mice and stuck with a Logiterch Trackman Marble simply because it is comfortable to use, precise in its movement, and scrolls quickly through either graphics or text documents. However when my current one "died" I was faced with a dilema; should I go to a wireless Trackball 570 [which I find uncomfortable to use, or stay with the wired Marble version? Forced to temporarily use a "conventional" mouse was not a pleasant experience so I looked at other Logitech mice to see if there was an alternative that would work with my Logitech keyboard's dongle. The Anywhere MX mouse seemed to fit the bill, and although it was quite expensive, I did some more research. The MX [and also the later MX2] use the latest Darkfield Laser technology, which works on any surface except a mirror, is relatively small, yet comfortable, wireless, and can be used with either hand. It has five buttons, a Hyper Fast scroll wheel [with free or ratchet options] and also a Tilt Scroll function for moving sideways through web pages or documents. On the face of it the specifications looked excellent so I took the plunge and ordered one! It arived in a couple of days and I eagerly unpacked it and popped in the [supplied] two AA batteries. It immediately connected to the keyboard's Unifying dongle and I was good to go. I thought that getting used to a "conventional" mouse again would be a chore but in fact the Anywhere seemed MX to fit my hand perfectly and surprisingly it was even more precise than the Marble trackball it replaced. But what was a real shock was the way it would scroll through a huge datbase with just a single flick of the wheel - utterly stunning, and so efficient! I've now being using the Anywhere MX for a couple of weeks and wonder how I ever thought the old Marble trackball was so comfortable and efficient. The Anywhere, as claimed by Logitech, will indeed work on virtually any surface from a sheet of virgin white paper to a wooden desk. It even works perfectly on a leather brief case, and even my jeans! Whether you are working on a database, using Photoshop, or desk top publishing the Anywhere is an utter pleasure to use. An added bonus is that it also immediately links to my laptop which is a bonus I had not actually considered. It also seems to be even more accurate than my touchpad despite working in about 25% of the touchpad's space - no mean achievement. Yes, there are far cheaper mice out there, and also a few that are extremely more expensive, but I think the Anywhere MX really is excellent value. I have no idea how long it will keep running on a set of batteries but taking into account its ease of use, convenience, accuracy, and comfort, it's not really important!Read full review

Operational distance is just over 1.5m if you sitting any further mouse loses signal. Also very often logitech sowtware won't recognise mouse. What means mouse can move pointer around but anything else like: buttons, scroll wheel, middle button. Scroll wheel is no good to. Sometime it start scrolling page without touching it even when smooth scroll function is of, wheel pressed down. Maybe it was unprofessionaly refurbished, maybe it was not refurbished at all. I gues you get what you pay for...

I know this review is after this original version has been replaced by the MX 2 and 2s (even the budget 2s AMZ marketing hoypalloy)... but I am still seeking out and buying this original version as I have not yet found anything to surpass it yet. But why? The pros are many... with the obvious portability, the breakthrough Darkfield tracking on ANY surface including clear glass, the appropriately positioned extra thumb buttons, not least the left right clicking/fly wheel that is so useful whilst scan/finding info in docs, large spreadsheets and Web pages... But the killer Pro is the little known fact that whilst it has two AA battery slots, it runs perfectly adequately on a single AA, in either slot... none of the charging business or irreplaceable batteries inside as today's versions. Built in obsolescence to make a buck imo nowadays. Not to. mention the dongle stores inside and closing the sensor shuts the mouse off... totally..! The only Con however is the known issue of the microswitch... My left click now more often than not actually double clicks... really annoying when using spreadsheets or dragging... That is the reason I seek them out (and have dropped it by a star}) ... to take out the buttons of even broken ones and solder new life into my trusty steed Replace with new PTFE feet and voila another 3 years of trouble free mousing around. Yes I have now sought and bought a supply of new omicron microswitches because it is quite rare to see it being sold on ebay nowadays, but when I see one I can't resist buying it...either a shiny or the less common matt finish version... I love it..! Well done Logitech... any chance of a similar Anywhere MX3 in the pipeline? I hope so.Read full review

It does what it says, it does track on glass. The batteries last for several months even if used over 12 lours each day. Standard AA batteries or AA rechargeable changed in seconds. Excellent quality product. Extra programmable tilt wheel functions. The newer Locitech Anywhere MX 2 is dead when the battery dies and the price is absolutely horrendous. This Anywhere MX with AA batteries should go on for forever.

Excellent mouse. It does indeed work on absolutely anything!!! Glass, shiny plastic , leather ... everything! It is well weighted and the buttons feel solid when clicking. The scroll wheel is such a pleasure to play with - the 2 scroll functions are amazing. It is a small, versatile mouse and the receiver is tiny. I ordered one for the missus and ended up ordering two more due to the excellent build quality, one for myself and one for my dad. Highly recommended product!
