Len Deighton's a master of the spy story, not in a James Bond way, with lots of explosions and scantily clad women, but in a down to earth, common or garden way. The central character, Bernard Samson, you could pass in the street and not notice. A true spy I suppose. This book brings the reader right upto date with the twists and turns of not only espionage but also office politics. London Match forms the 3rd book of a truely immense series running to nine novels, culminating in 'Charity'. Without giving to much away, I particularly like the way Deighton returns to scenes you may have read four books ago and retells the story but from another characters' viewpoint. These books can be read independantly, but to get the full picture, there is no answer but to start at the top with Berlin Game. Read them, I implore you, wether in paperback, hardback, or from your local library. Its a treat!Read full review
