I bought this as a used item, for backup purposes. For me, the product was very good value for money as although secondhand and locked to Virgin Mobile, this was of no consequence as I already had Virgin as a provider. The phone works well, althought the keypad is a little on the small size for me, having a larger hand. Battery life is reasonable. The camera function seems to work OK although this is not a feature I am particularly interested in, for me a phone is to make and receive calls and texts, as old fashioned as that may sound!
excellent little mobile for calls and texts. compact and easy to slip in a pocket.

I purchased this phone to replace one exactly the same. I loved using it and when it stopped working properly after nearly 6yrs I looked on e-bay for another one. I find it easy to use and didn't fancy upgrading to the internet ones. I only really use it for texts and phone calls so it does me well.
perfect replacement for an old phone for a technophobe... i didnt think she'd cope well with a smart phone!

I have tried several 'clamshell' phones and the Motorola V220 is definitely one of the best of them. Primarily, it's a very compact phone but also incredibly robust, compared to the later models like the Razors. The camera is quite good for the size. Of course it's not a DSLR but the pictures are quite clear enough to be useable. The batteries are actually very reliable and easy to find at sensible prices. all too often, phones are given long standby times but seldom actually meet anything like that time. The V220 does have a pretty good battery life and also, as I live in Wales wher reception is not always the best, this model does seem to hang in there when other people are performing all kinds of acrobatics to get a signal! I notice that second-hand, they tend to hold a reasonable price although in the run up to Christmas, they are not quite what is most sought after as younger kids want the latest models. If you get one, finding a manual could prove a bit hard but it's pretty simple to figure it out as the settings are faily idiot proof. I run mine on a PAYG sim and on the Orange Dolphin package, that means I get 300 free text messages every ten quid. The one thing that shows up there is that the adaptive text does actually work better than most and doesn't keep coming up with ridiculous words that are nowhere close to what I want to say. The result is that texts are a lot faster to write and a lot less hassle. The V220 does have the capability of multiple numbers on some billing tariffs, making it versatile enough for business use. It will also 'roam' between networks to give even better reception in those annoying dead zones if your account will handle roaming and switch very fast. The screen is maybe a little small for internet browsing but if you are inclined to use it for that, you will find it does a fairly quick job even if you do need a magnifying glass! But as a phone, it's pretty hard to find one as compact, tough and powerful as this. Full marks from me as a mobile phone, I'll stick to a notebook/laptop for internet access though.Read full review
