Nice Machine - nicely customised. Very happy with it. Features, Speed and design are well balanced with the Mac-Pro, especially if you have an iPhone or are familiar with other Apple's products, makes life so much simpler synchronising ([Photos, Contacts etc.)The SSD hard drive is very useful along with the 16GB Ram, giving it awesome speed, But also very useful having the 1TB to store the larger files. The downfall is getting familiar to using the Mac, I have always used a normal windows machine, will need some time to get familiar and comfortable with it. Overall Awesome machine But I think the Lenovo by IBM beats it for me, as I need to combine it with work balance.
For 25 years I have been a Microsoft man and considered Apple to be an expensive toy for the kids. Having retired and taken a part time job where I am the only person still using Windows I decided to give it a try. I almost bought a cheap Mac Mini but decided to go the whole hog and switch laptops (but with the belts and braces of a VMWARE Windows 7 installation). ReInstalling back to factory defaults was easy enough, as long as you choose the right option and not the repair one... The first catch was the Apple licensing model which means that the OS and bundled Apps are owned by the first owner - so if you reinstall you loose the bundled apps and if you do not reinstall you loose the ability to update them through the App Store. A few notes exchanged with the app store support line and they kindly gave me a fresh licence for the iLife Apps. Installing VMWARE trial and BootCamp Windows was easy enough but I again fell foul of licensing with Microsoft when I imported the BootCamp partition to native VMWARE. Tip do not activate anything until you are happy that it is working as desired. I have upped the machine to 8Gb RAM to enable VMWARE to run without slowing everything else down - but to be honest I am slowly switching to native Mac Apps and using the Windows VM less and less each day. I mostly use the Mac docked to a full hd screen (via a DVI-D connection as the VGA connection does not support 1920x1080 WHY NOT APPLE!) with an external keyboard and a magic mouse (what a joy to use). Apart from the @ key position I have just about got used to the keyboard now. The Mac is really just a Linux distribution that has got the user interface right - simple to use - easy to install programs - I love the dock, love the multiple desktops - everything is either upside down or swapped left to right compared to Windows , but you soon get used to that. I can see an iPhone coming next...Read full review
Macbook pro 13.3 is the best laptop in the world. It is very easy to use, it has an outstanding look, the picture and sound are great. I bought an Apple Mac because they are not prone to being infected with viruses and work at a really fast speed. The capacity even in a 13" is more than enough for my usage. Initially I wanted windows which can easily be installed, I found however that I got on really well without since I do not use Sage or Excel. This is a user friendly product that doesn't require much getting used to as it includes help and tutorials. The disc drive is however a must and I would not recommend the Apple Mac Air for that reason. There is an ongoing problem with the power leads with Apple, since they have a tendency to suffer from metal fatigue. I have fitted a flexible sleeve over the existing wire to combat this problem. They are pricy but I think you get what you pay for and I certainly do not regret the initial outlay. I would not entertain the idea of switching to another make.Read full review
The build quality is simply excellent with many thoughtful touches such as the illuminated keyboard and the magnetic power connector. I've spent a lot of time finding out how to do things I did on my PC and I've not always been impressed with the macbook in this respect. For instance the handling of files seems less easy than Windows and slightly more restrictive until you work out how to do it. Email is a delight with all of my three accounts automatically checking for mail as I switch on. I tried Pages as a word processor and another cheaper app which was also acceptable but in the end I bought Microsoft Office as a way of making sure that I could access documents from other sources. Well worth the money. I also bought Photoshop Elements which gives me greater manipulation of images than that which is available in iPhoto. Speaking of which I found iPhoto quite confusing. It took me some time to see the difference between events and albums and I have been unable to list events rather than display the thumbnails which would be useful finding files. However I'm getting used to it and as with everything else there is always a way to emulate Windows as a bottom line. I ended up buying the American version of Macbook pro which was not entirely clear in the advertisement but it was £160 cheaper than the high street. However there are no problems with this and apart from the currency keys all machines are identical. In summary I feel I have bought a quality product and would do so again but the much cheaper prices for a Windows based laptop with similar specifications on the high street does raise the issue of value for money.Read full review
