My old Magefesa 6 Qt pressure cooker is the fastest way to prepare dried beans. The silicone gasket is a must. The new one has more rigid edges and withstands the 15 lbs of pressure. It does not matter if the replacement gasket is a few years old, just as long as it is sealed and protected. This one was manufactured in 2012 but retains the rigidity of a brand new gasket. The former gasket was 13 years old and had sat unused for many years. I did try it and it withstood the pressures but was definitely weaker.

My old gasket was five years old before I replaced it, should have done it sooner as recommended. Also remember to clean out your lid assembly when you change your gasket. The parts get gunked up over time, especially if you use your Magefesa a lot like I do. Replace your gasket at least every two years, its worth it. Thanks much.
