I would say the rule of thumb for this movie is, if you like Mitchell and Webb on the TV (In Peep Show or That Mitchell and Webb Look) you'll love it, if you don't like them on TV, I wouldn't advise the movie would be a good buy. The movie is basically a vehicle for Mitchell and Webb. the story is very entertaining, Harry and Karl have a successful magic act until a tragic accident causes them to split, with both their careers up the creek Harry decides to contact Karl in order for them to get together for a magic competition, in the hope they'll win the star prize. Unfortunately the tension is still there and they end up going into the competition alone, with Harry asking Linda an ex work colleague to be his assistant, and Karl being advised by his slightly odd and possesive friend Otto well played by Daren Boyd. It's all very well written and directed, and even though this movie is a vehicle for Mitchell and Webb there are some really good performances from Jesica Hines (Spaced and Shaun of the Dead) who plays Harry's assistant Linda, Paul Mark Elliot (The Thick Of It) who plays the thearte manager and my favourite Steve Edge (Phoenix Nights and The Cup.) who plays moronic Magician Tony White. A really good, fun movie.Read full review
this film is great, it has two magicians trying to win a magic show, and all the funny things that happen to them along the way.i love it.
Comedy about a magician who accidentally cuts off his wife's head during a magic act, oh and just after he found her in a compromising position with his best friend/magic partner. They try solo comebacks but fate draws them back together. Some hilarious moments, but more of a made for TV feel about it than a big screen effort, still well worth a look.
This Movie was spot on. Not the best film ever made. But watchable, laugh out loud funny, believable and interesting. The two main Magicians (Mitchell & Webb) are well potrayed and they are ably supported by a collection of weird and wacky assisants, fellow magicians, magic afficiandoes and judges. Lots of decent one liners and funny moments. Basically if you like the sound of the plot, then you will not be dissapointed. A funny accomplished watch.
