I decided that it was about time that I replaced my 25 year old Bosch hammer drill for something a bit more modern. I needed to get something decent that would drill the stone walls of my house, but also help remove the old tiles in the kitchen & bathroom. I looked at several SDS drills from Bosch, DeWalt & Hilti, but finally decided on this HR2470 from Makita. It's not the cheapest, but Wow what a tool! It drills holes into stone & brickwork with ease, infact the first time I used it the holes ended up about twice as deep as I had intended (should have used the depth stop there!). I have now added a set of chisels to the kit, and have removed the rendered tiles from the kitchen, plus channeled out the walls to take new power cables. The thing that really makes me smile though, is the real ease that this drill handles the tasks that I ask of it. My old Bosch drill is now in semi-retirement drilling no more than the odd piece of softwood. Would I recommend the HR2470 to others? Definitely!Read full review
This is an awesome bit of kit and should last me until my last DIY days! I was struggling to drill through brick with my old hammer drill and I bought a Bosch cordless hammer to replace it but that was useless so I thought I'd stop messing about and get a decent one once and for all. It cost me less than the Bosch cordless so I didn't feel too guilty. Well my friends; I have chosen well, this baby drills through brick and breeze block (concrete block) like butter. It makes the job so easy and I love the SDS+ drill bit changer which is so easy. Yes I've had to buy a few SDS drill bits but I only generally use 2 sizes so not a big outlay. You can get a convertor chuck but I'm not going to bother. It comes with a good sturdy case but I would have preferred metal clasps. I investigated a replacement with said clips but you cannot get a tailor made one. The clips hold well enough though. I originally got the drill in a huge case with 101 accessories but they made the case really heavy so I bought a replacement case and sold the accessories with the original case. All in all a great buy so don't hesitate in following my example!!!Read full review
Purchased the product for mainly drilling into concrete to which it handles the job perfectly. The product is light weight and has excellent built quality. As a result this drill will last. Although this drill has a chisel function, I have not used it for this purpose. I feel that the 780w motor lacks the power to take on some of the larger jobs I had to tackle (i.e. braking away large patio). For this I used the more power (and expensive) Makita HR4001C Max rotory hammer drill. However, I have read reviews indicating that the HR2470 has been used to chip away old rendering. Overall, I highly recommend this drill.
I have several of these machines & they are consistently great workhorses. Although the cords are a nuisance I am prepared to overlook this obstacle

Doing up a house which required something other than an ordinary hammer drill due to the very hard bricks used. I selected this drill due to its performance and relative light weight which is important when working off ladders. Great SDS drill. Very powerful for its size and drills effortlessly through very hard bricks and concrete my hammer drills wouldnt touch. The demolition function is so good it is tempting to use it too much which would presumably wear it out quickly considering its light weight.
