When the manics were so beautiful, yound and richey and nickey were the glamour twins. Although the manics sound a bit like a rip-off of guns n roses, this album is amazing on its own merits. The guitar is great and its a very lively rocking album. The lyrics take on a numer of social and political issues and are very meaningful and thought-provoking. Best songs on album are "you love us", "loves sweet exile" and "spectators of suicide".
Classic Rock'n'Roll from the early 90's. The only thing that lets it down is that the single "Motown Junk" is not on it but apart from that you've got 18 brilliant written tracks by Richey, Nicky, James and Sean. And as for the lyrics...well buy the c.d. and read them for yourself in the booklet. Amazing. Ten out of ten. BUY IT!
when i first heard slash'n'burn from manic street preachers,i had the good surprise to hear something rock blended with energy. their particular style show a new stage from the whales. with their first album, they had many things to show(up to 70 minutes) a good combination with screaming guitars, yelling voice full of melody they show their own style,a very good album with 2 guitars at the time before missing their guitarist 2 years later. this album show energy,no much tracks are includes in their compilation, listen to slash n burn first and follow the tracks! this is much before their big international 'everlasting' single
One of the albums that defines an era - this and Holy Bible (I'm not as into Gold Against The Soul) show us the best of the manics and show up the incredable talent that was Richey Edwards
