One of the best books ever written about the movies
Margaret Mitchell wasn't simply the author of 'Gone With The Wind'. She was also a superb journalist, a writer with as sharp a wit (and tongue) as Dorothy Parker. Instead of being merely yet another book about the cinema in general, or one epic movie in particular, this book of Mitchell's collected letters is a consistently entertaining and illuminating insight into the life and times of Mitchell the writer and Mitchell the very, very reluctant celebrity, chronicling as it does her thoughts and experiences in the run-up to Selznick's lavish extravaganza and afterwards. In all the literature of yesteryear Hollywood, there's nothing quite like this delightful personal memoir, nor anything quite as entertaining or insightful.
