Margery Allingham is one of the 'queens of crime' along with Dorothy L sayers, Ngiao Marsh. 'Tiger' is her 24th Campion novel and regarded as one of her best. The book was made into a film in 1956, starring Donald Sinden. It is a novel about deception, what appears to be a blackmail case is something else entirely. Full of recognisable and well rounded characters this could be used as an exam text. The scene where Canon Avril (a minor character up until this point) confronts the murderer is worth reading the book for. Three intertwining subplot all combined at the storys climax. a much ignored classic. Allingham wrote novels with crime in them and not crime novels.
