Queen Mary Tudor sadly remains one of those figures that 'history' has not been kind to, and she has been constantly personified and portrayed as "Bloody Mary", although that was a nickname that was not used until at least over a 100 years after her death. Luckily today there are authors, academics, and historians who now take a far more intelligent and sympathetic view of Mary Tudor and Anna Whitelock is certainly one of those. Anna's book is really excellent, it is not a heavy 'tome' and is a very readable and enjoyable book and I would recommend it to anyone whether they be a casual historian like me, or a more highly qualified reader. This book can be purchased brand new or secondhand on Ebay at a very reasonable price - buy it!
