If you missed the chance to see it in the cinema, then this DVD is a must-buy. The film tells the story of Leonard (Guy Pearce), who has a condition meaning he has no short-term memory. He writes things down as reminders for himself, and tattoos the really important things on his body so he will never forget them, such as details about his wife's killer. An interesting premise but not the reason the film is so great. No, the reason the film is so highly regarded is Nolan's trademark messed up chronology. The film jumps around as Leonard pieces together various bits of his memory the story is told in bits and pieces, the fractured style giving it its own original atmosphere. I really can't say any more without spoiling it, but rest assured this is one of the most original, intelligent, engaging films released in a long time. Two discs of special features may seem a bit much for a single film, but they're all interesting and worth a look. Personally I bought the Collector's Edition because I love the film so much I wanted to find out everything I could about it and to that end it's very satisfying. Still, if the special features don't convince you then the film itself makes the purchase worth it, as it's one of those stories you have to see at least twice. I've seen it five times now and am still discovering something new each time, I only envy those who have not seen it so they can experience it for the first time.Read full review
I decided to look up and buy this DVD because I had over-heard about it and its plot and it made me curious. I must say I'm not disappointed, pretty much the opposite. It's original, unpredictable and geniusly conceive. Excelente plot, direction and actors' performance. Definitely one of the best movies I've seen lately. I highly recomend it.
This is the type of movie your parents rattled on about when they told you " they don't make them like that anymore".Well, "they" patently do; this noir-thriller is chronologically perverse in that it begins at the end. Piece by piece, the story regresses until the final denouemont, or, to give it it's proper description, the start, is revealed, along with the motivations of the principal leads. And what casting it is. Guy Pierce once and for all ending any residual doubts about his excellent acting abilities, Carrie-Anne Moss as the traditional femme-fatale, only more sadistic and exploitative and, best of all, an outstanding Joe Pantoliano as a dubious cop.
for me it's the best film of Nolan. The most inventiv too. But this edition is only in english. I'd prefer there is french on too
