Bought to fit an LX3. I wanted a 2xAA flash with enough power to bounce off low ceilings and this is exactly perfect. The LX3 controls the output (TTL). I've always had good quality from Metz, and you used to pay over the odds for it. The 24AF-1 is lighter than it looks (i.e. feels a trifle flimsy), but the Panasonic equivalent costs over twice as much and doesn't do bounce, and bounce flash is the only way to go indoors, making this Metz well worth the price. There is no wide angle diffuser and it doesn't zoom; its 35mm coverage is perfect, however, when bounced using the LX3's wide angle. The plastic locking grip doesn't feel as though it will last forever - so try not to squeeze it too hard. I am still on the original batteries, so cannot comment there other than to say it's far better to drain separate AAs than the camera's rechargeable. Docked 1 star because there's no pouch for it.Read full review
I have bought this to go on top of my Nikon P7700. Thus far it seems to work perfectly well with the camera from an exposure point of view, as the P7700 has a leaf shutter (p7700 is an advanced compact, not an SLR) the flash will synch right up to 500'th sec and up :-) which is nice obv on a DSLR the sync speed will limit this. The flash will bounce by tilting the tube unit upwards, I must say the the hinge does not feel the strongest of construction best be gentle with it I think. The hot shoe foot has an interesting lock which rachets the lugs outwards to lock on, neat! To sum up Not as capable as the larger metz + nikon guns but a useful adjunct to the camera. On last thing the focus assist light seems not to work on my camera, I dont know if its because the camera already has an assist lamp or its an incompatibility between the cam & the flash, i've yet to get an aswer from Metz although I cant say as im missing the functionality.Read full review
I bought this as a simple replacement for the built-in flash and it does that job very well. It gives around two to three times the power of a typical built-in flash so is a worthwhile upgrade for the price. Just plug it in and let the camera sort out all the details - couldn't be simpler. The only thing against it for me is the specific warning in the manual not to use disposable lithium batteries. A slight nuisance as these are what I normally put in flashguns.
good for first timers. excellent flash. does the job. small and light. battery life good can use rechargable ones
