Produced shortly after WWII illustrating the British perspective. Nicely filmed with an array of excellent actors. I would heartily recommend this film who are especially interested in this particular genre.

Clever wartime story. Michael Redgrave is a Czech army officer, escaped from a German PoW camp, who steals the papers from a dead British officer, is captured and again sent to a PoW camp. Fluent in English, he starts to correspond with the British officer's wife (having deliberately damaged his right hand so that he must write with his left, in order to explain the unfamiliar handwriting). He asks her to describe her life as if they were strangers, thus getting to learn as much as possible about her and her children. (In fact the husband had been a totally uncaring character for whom she no longer had any feelings.) When eventually repatriated he goes to see her and of course they fall in love. Brilliant character sketches from a wonderful cast. Even in black and white the film is wonderful to watch.Read full review
Had only previously seen part of the film so needed to know how it ended.
