Way back in 1988, the Minolta 7000i when released was revolutionary in design and function. It was the natural evolution of its precursor the Minolta 7000, with a more refined push button and rocker switch interface, far away from the usual dials for shutter speed and film speed design-which was regarded at the time as the usual s.l.r. layout. This along with the all new extra large illuminated and tilted top-plate lcd made the 7000i, a very fast and easy to use camera which in fact is so easy to use, it really didn't even need an instruction manual. This camera has the usual modes that all decent multi-mode slr cameras have, program- accessed with only one button push of the large P button next to the top-plate lcd. In this mode, the camera controls all functions, aperture, shutter and ttl flash output when used with a Minolta dedicated unit. Shutter priority, whereby the user alters the shutter speed, and the camera controls the lens aperture and ttl flash output is automatically controlled. The camera will place a limit to the shutter speed options available if flash is used because the maximum shutter speed speed useable with flash is only 1/125 of a second which could be higher. Aperture priority, whereby the user alters the lens aperture, and the camera controls the shutter speed, ttl flash output and sync speed. Manual, the user can select both shutter speed and lens aperture combination's. Metering modes available, 6 segment, spot and centre weighted(only in manual focus) Focus modes is predictive by default, the camera will automatically track moving subjects if detected, this isn't up to the speed of current cameras but is accurate. Manual control index of metering modes(in the lcd) would improve this camera, but with the spot meter button being so well placed, it isn't really too big a problem. The shutter speed range of 30 second through 1/4000 of a second and bulb for longer exposures is more than adequate though longer exposures than 30 seconds will require rc1000 or rc1000l shutter release and battery's will drain more quickly than usual. The camera uses the ubiquitous 2cr5 lithium battery, which are plentiful and cheap to buy with good tolerance of low temperatures. The build quality far exceeds the current crop of beginner slr cameras with a reassuring solidity and weight in the hands, the huge grip is also wonderfully comfortable. Conclusion, if your happy to use film or haven't yet switched to digital or on a very strict budget, these cameras make a great investment. The current UK rate of £20-£40 is really cheap for the quality of what you get. The range of lenses available is huge and modestly priced. Only problems to look out for with these cameras are bleeding lcd displays, top plate and viewfinder. I cannot recommend these cameras highly enough, for the money involved-their great :-)Read full review

Not the camera shown in the accompanying photo, however it is the culmination of the developmentof the hobby/professional 35mm film camera. With auto focus a choice of shutter or aperture priority or manual setting. It accepts program cards for a quick change of programme modes such as sport, exposure or shutter bracketing. Sequential shots can be preset too. It is now exceptional value second hand as it is very robust and reliable. A couple of these bodies in your sony digital camera bag and loaded with different speed film makes a reliable backup for full memory cards and flat batteries at 2% of the price of the digital equivalent.
If you are itching to try out 35mm film photography on a modest budget, then I highly recommend the Minolta autofocus Dynax (Maxxum in the USA). I have the Dynax 5 and the 7000i and three or four to quality Minolta lenses for very little cost and they are great quality with super sharp images.

I bought this camera as I already had a lens to fit to it and I paid a competative price. I checked the camera when it arrived. It appeared to be in perfect working order. I have used up a film to test the camera. Which went very well. I still need to see the results to confirm that it is working properly. I would recommend this model if you are looking for a film camera.
