The 782 where one of Missions best designs. If you find a pair, regardless of the state they are into, buy them. Then when the mid drivers fail, replace them with the originally intended Audax HM13020... you will have to tweak the installation like you can read in my blog, but, in the end, you'll have a speaker that can go head to head with stuff costing over 5k, costing a fraction of the price. The image on these things is amazing and the "bad reputation" gained with recalls and failing drivers make them a cheap buy... and once repaired, a rare exemplar of a speaker that was never originally built as the engineer intended. In other words, a very very rare specimen. I'm never going to sell mines.

Very special compact floor standers. Probably spendor sound quality . The original mid range cones were made in France for mission but they all fail in the end. However they are easy to replace with modern mission replacement aerogel cones which are bullet proof and sound as good as the originals once they have worn in. This usually takes about 40 hours. The replacement cones are still available from mission for £50 each. Sound slightly better if bi amped. Novel side firing base units at floor level. This has been copied by Rega which are also rather special speakers but no better than the original missions

These speakers sound fantastic, small in size but very big on sound, the bass is deep and detailed and not "fluffy" like others. Solid construction and good looking, especially in rosewood or black. They are a very good second hand buy, just make sure the mid range drivers have been replaced for the updated design as they were know to fail.
Fantastic speakers for my AV setup

Excellent speakers given its size and price category (have 10 years of experience of fequent listenning with this model..) Neutral, with tendency to "monitor-like" type of experession. Thanks to its special configuration with the bass driver mounted on the side and very low (just above the ground), the coupling of the bass range with room acoustics is much better than the standard configuration and does not sufffer by far by the standing wave effect. The bass experession is much more coherent throughout the entire room, including its direct centre of it! So it is excellent for greater audience scattered throughout the room, or listening while moving threoughout the room ( not a Hi-fi approach to listennong, but honestly, how moch time a day dou you really have for clean, concentrated listen.. - so it does comes handy ). 2 trick to this model though: 1) Sensitive for placement (due to mentioned specific configuration) - will take some effort for proper placement to get it sound right. Usualy sounds better when placed relatively closer to the back wall (up to 20 cm) - but you need to experiment for your particulat acoustic conditions. If you are willing to take the time and effort to find the proper placement and orientation fsuiting your needs, in my opinoion, the reward you get is a result greater than with many more expensive speakers. But If you are kind of lazy to experiment and just want to stand it up a get a immediate sound, you may be dissapointed. THey aslo take some serious time to "burn-in". Producer and sellers claims aout 24 hours, but my experience is at least 50 hours or more. 2} Older pieces came with karaform type mid-range driver, which was good, but suffered some production faulty design and very frequently failed. Newr pieces are equipped with Aerogel type of the same manufacrurer, which I believe sounds even "faster" and precise, but the sound caracteristics of this driver is slightly different - so if you happen to change the old failed keraform driver for the new Aoregel (which is now the only one available) - which is what happend to me, it takes some time to get used to the new sound. It may sound slightly strange at the begining (especially when you replace only one drive with new sound in oterwise identical sound field of existing tweeter and bass) but do not get disturbed by that and be patient. You ears need some time to adopt to the new sound as well. It took me about 2 months of some tough listennig experience, but once you get the drivers to losen a little bit an adopt to it, it is great. I am very happy with it. Recommended especially for those, who are not afraid to experiment a bit to get a better listenning experience. reatly recommeded! 2) Later produced Aerogelthan the stanard configuration.Read full review
