I bought this dvd becuase i became a fan of Billy Bob Thornton after seeing Bad Santa. He plays a similarly dark character in this one, but at the end of the day the plot is very thin and the script just isnt there for me. The main charater- John Farley is a successful writer in his mid 20's, having written a wildly successful self-help book inspired by his early years as the fat kid the gym teacher picked on. He wins a prestigious award which takes him back home, his homecoming is not a happy one however as his mum reveals the new man in her life is... MR WOODCOCK - the gym teacher guy who traumatised the writers early years. Mayhem ensues which takes mr woodcock and our hero from set piece to set piece. This is a comedy with an underlying message- its time to let go. In general its too over the top, and not very funny. There are a couple of genuinly hilarious moments but these only serve to highlight how uninspired the rest of the film is. Billy Bob Thornton does his thing and makes the movie very watchable. Its not an awful movie just dont expect a riot. Pickwick19852009Read full review
This is a great comedy starring Sean William Scott (American Pie series) and as ever, he is halarious. It's laughs aloud as John Farley (Scott) returns to his hometown only to discover that his mother (Susan Sarandon) has fallen in love with his old high school nemesis, Mr. Woodcock (Billy Bob Thornton). John sets out to stop his mother from marrying the man who had made life miserable for him and his classmates.
The only thing worse that Sean William Scott's bland performance in Mr. Woodcock, is Billy Bob Thornton's terrible show. In a film typical of High School Gym teachers in America, laughs and entertainment was pretty much a guarantee, but Woodcock fails to make anyone splutter over a drink with laughter, in-fact, the only thing that made me splutter over a drink in this are the sleazy innuendos. Being honest, the only positive thing about this movie, is the mediocre performance of Sarandon.
This film is really worth watching. quite slow to start but just gets funnier and funnier.Billy Bob thornton plays a dry PE teacher who bullies kids in particular the one he dates the mother of 12 years later when the lad gets famous by becoming a best selling writer and returns to his home town, only then does he find out that his mother is dating Billy bob.check it out you wont be dissapointed.
The film was ok but not as funny as i first thought the problem is that the best bits are seen in the trailers and the actual film was just boring after a while. I think billy bob and sean william scott are great comedy actors but unfortunatly this film damages there reputation a little
