Arrived on time and well packaged. After reading the supplied instructions, I fitted the sharpener to the mower very quickly. I adjusted the cylinder blades, so they just touched the sandpaper. I started the mower a set the tick-over to a slow speed for a few minutes, then stopped the mower and checked the blades. I gradually adjusted the cylinder and started the mower for a few minutes, then checked the blades until all the cutting edge was shiny along it's length. When finished, I reset the cylinder blades to the correct setting. This took a total of 20 minutes, which I thought was not bad for the 1st time.

Firstly this was quite difficult to fit in the right position, but after a while I managed it. However, the screw fittings are made of cheap plastic and one of them broke when I attempted to push the mower as instructed, and the sharpener fell off. I tried using it by placing the mower on its side instead, and turning the wheels by hand, but this did not seem to have any effect on the sharpness of the blades. In the end I used one of those cheap hand-held knife sharpeners which cost about £2, sharpening each blade of the cylinder by hand. This worked reasonably well and seems to have improved the cutting capability. Overall I am disappointed with this product, it is cheaply made (metal fittings would be better and would not cost much more) and it does not work particularly well, and is very expensive for what it is , ie, a bit of plastic and metal with some sandpaper stuck on it. I suspect this high price is charged because people see it as a cheaper alternative to professional sharpening (I was quoted £30, which is half the cost of the mower itself). But if you want to save money I would suggest using one of those cheap knife-sharpeners first.Read full review

Don't over tighten the attachment screws as they are just plastic. Just enough to hold the bar securely. Don't try to take too much off in one pass. Adjust the blade gradually. I took about 30 mins to get to a decent sharpness with an even cut across the width.

Simple idea, easy to use & perfect results. Follow the easy to understand instructions & the blade is as good as new. Used on my 30 year old Qualcast 30S Punch & saved paying £55 for a regrind. Only used one abrasive too.
