Reading reviews of this router it would seem brilliant. Do a search for 'R7000 re boots constantly' and there are pages of stuff on various forums where people have had to give up and buy something better. The stock firmware, even the latest, lacks USB support for Linux. So forget printing from USB if you use Linux. This router can run dd-wrt firmware but it is unstable and re boots at random. I finally installed Tomato firmware and it has been fairly stable but drops the WAN connection often and connectivity is lost until it sorts itself out. I've ordered a replacement, a different make as I can no longer spend countless hours trying different fixes.

So I've been using a router provided by my ISP for free and decided to get this one. Was expecting the installation to be easy but got disappointed, the user interface could do some work. It doesn't cover my 2 room apartment very well and on top of that is placed in the center. Playing games I get some insane ping spikes, but this could be caused by the ISP as well. The connection to the wifi network is stable. A big con is the fact that a few months ago a breach in the stock firmware was found allowing your data to be hacked pretty easy. This is fixed now but shouldn't have existed in the first place.

Purchased this so I could flash it with a vpn software. I downloaded Tomato firmware and set up my vpn account (ip vanish)inside it. With the vpn on I get 30Mbps download and 20Mbps upload. It also uses Beamforming technology and I get a strong signal so over my house whereas my Plusnet one gets weak upstairs.. .overall excellent. You do need a fibre modem as this is only a bridge but I connected this to the back of my Plusnet one so runs through that....

Excellent. Connected to internet immediately. . Routers have 3 pairs of identities to enter: 1. The operating software: Access this router software by entering 192.168.0.1 into a browser address box, which should open immediately, and then entering "admin" and "password" to logon - probably, but this should be in a quick start guide. (Can change, but don't, there's no point) 2. The Username & Password provided by the ISP. (cannot change) 3. The hardware: SSID & Network Key/Passphrase (don't change) - these are probably printed on a label on the router's underside. Then reboot the router, using the power on/off button. There's a PDF user manual on the Netgear website, but for "how routers work" look elsewhere
