There are plenty of Wargame Rule Books out there. I have yet to find a definitive, all encompassing Book that is used by all. It is important, therefore, to agree upon which Rules the Players are prepared to use before Battle is joined. To date, Bolt Action has proven to be the most widely accepted set of Rules among the Teams I play. I recommend that, before one buys a Rule Book, one first researches what Wargamers you are likely to face, are using. Chances are, Bolt Action will be one of the options.

I am more of a modeller & painter rather than gamer, however I have gamed quite a few sets of rules over the years for many different periods plus fantasy & steampunk, & many times used "in house" rules that borrowed greatly from well known rules. I am no expert on ww2 gaming, however Bolt Action seems to have the right feel; to me at least. We do tend to use a few more A.F.V`s than suggested but I suppose many others do the same & that is something I like very much, the way that that parameters are suggested rather than demanded. Like all rules certain things are open to debate & conjecture mostly due to the odd error in the rules, but if you look on line you will find most questions answered, & I suppose at the end of the day like all rules if something doesn't quite sit right with you & your gaming partners, then change it to something you agree upon. At the end of the day what we all want from a rule set is flexability, Bolt Action provides this in abundance, we also want something challenging yet reasonably easy to pick up, a bit like chess if you like; learn to play in half an hour & spend a lifetime trying to master it. Overall this is a great set of rules, self explanatory, full colour throughout with tons of eye candy & no waffle where the author attempts to impress you with his intellect & ends up simply driving you to sleep with boredom. With this set of rules you can start with very few figures & simply grow if that's what you wish to do, you can play one of the suggested scenarios or make up your own & its all so much fun, all in all I can`t see anybody not liking Bolt Action.Read full review
