I wanted a tablet purely for home use and found the 7" tablets I tried were a little too small for my liking but my budget didn't stretch the larger screen tablets from the well known brands. Then I found this Nook. The Nook HD+ has an excellent 9" high resolution screen, it feels very well made and although it's not as quick as the very latest Android tablets it's perfectly usable and so far has handled the latest Android games/apps without problem. The battery life also seems good and the memory card slot is a nice bonus, making it easy to add more storage if needed. There are some areas that could be seen as downsides, for example, no camera. The charging lead has a proprietary connector, not the mini USB that most phones/tablets use. There's no HDMI out but you can buy an HDMI adapter cable from B&N currently if you really need this. However, none of these areas were of concern for me. Some experienced Android users may not like the B&N version of Android but I find it pleasant enough to use. The Google Play store is now fully available on the Nook so you can have all the games/apps you want. If you prefer a more pure Android experience and you have the know how then the option of putting a Cyanogen ROM on this tablet is available. All-in-all, if you're on a tight budget, want a decent tablet with a larger screen at a very good price and your not bothered by the 'downsides' mentioned above. Then the Nook HD+ is very hard to beat (in my humble opinion).Read full review
I have a 7" Nook HD and found that although the HD screen was super clear and made movies and photos look superb, it was a touch too small for reading anything without zooming up the text. My "as new" Nook HD+'s screen is full HD; again super with your pics and movies but now is MUCH easier relaxed reading with 9" screen to be honest the text is stunning sharp and easy to balance with auto brightness (settings). Otherwise I upgraded the clunky slow Android 2.2 to Kitkat 4.4.4, which brought this able tablet out of the dark ages. (cyanogenmod) Overall a great buy at £52 came with 32gb memory! Hey its not starship fast, but does all those everyday tasks:- email, FB, messenger, net, reading, movies, youtube really well. In my opinion no camera = take photos with a DSLR ! enjoy them on your tablet. Nook looks great with CoverUp hessian cover. I have a 2 & 4 YO, both love the Nooks.Read full review
I already had a Nook glowlight, perfect as e-reader The HD Nook is not exactly a reader and not exactly a tablet. A combination of both. Very heavy, battery life about 2 days. Can't be used outside because of glare, reflections. But you can see a movie, browse the internet in decent conditions, read a book.
This was an amazing price coming when Barnes and Noble considered leaving the tablet market. Fantastic screen for videos and very good audio quality. It's not the fastest on the block but hey, I can wait an extra micro second for it to catch up!
I purchased this for my wife for Xmas. She has an ipad but wanted the 9" NOOK HD for e-reading and watching films etc. This is a perfect gift to help turn her into a tecnophobe and get into more than just i. As i am not an i person and quite like to us all the market has to offer. She has purchased an Kindle fire HD. MMMM can't wait for Xmas
Fantastic screen, but I hate the fact that in the UK, Barnes & Noble have ignored completely the need to supply an HDMI cable. You can only buy them for £40 including postage from the US. £40! It's just not that good to fork out that ridiculous amount. Come on Barnes & Noble, be fair to UK customers and sell the HDMI adapters in the UK at a reasonable price. I would not recommend this product for that reason.
Can't fault it, but needs N2A card to open it up fully to Android. Barnes & Noble would sell far more if they opened it up, because it's a beautiful bit of kit. Come on B & N - just do it!
Mobile devices are necessity, so tablets are part of our day to day activities. My expectation were for powerful tablet cheaper than iPad with the same or similar features. I am very happy with what I have bought and would recomend it highly.
