North of Watford Volume 3 makes me want to find and buy volumes 1 and 2. This is a brilliant collection of tracks, some I know and love (It's Too Late, Highwire, I've Been Hurt) and others that were new to me. Most of these are real gems; Wait A Minute by Tim Tam and The Turnons (how's that for a name!), She's Alright by McKenna Mendelson Mainline, who I had never heard but now can highly recommend. Some, of course, were not to my taste (what was Roy Orbison doing in this compilation?) but that is to be expected when you have 24 tracks on one CD. All in all an excellent comp and, for newbees, a great inro to the Northern Soul scene.
I now have all 3 volumes and they are full of soul classics, not to be missed for a fan of the period which for me was the best time ever to be a teenager. I came upon this series by chance and am glad to have heard all the music again.
Anyone who loves northern soul will love this. Real memory jogger, though some odd tracks thrown in, overall very enjoyable.
